Updated August 2026: Garnier’s Vitamin C Daily UV range has expanded since I originally reviewed this SPF50+ fluid, but the product remains available in the UK. The current range includes invisible and sheer-glow finishes, alongside newer tinted options.
Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV SPF50+ review: quick verdict
This is a lightweight daily facial SPF for anyone who wants high SPF50+ protection alongside a brighter-looking finish. Garnier describes the formula as non-greasy, non-sticky and suitable before makeup. The glow version contains mineral pigments for immediate radiance, while the invisible version is the better place to start if you do not want added tint or glow.
- Protection: SPF50+ with UVA, UVB and long-UVA protection.
- Finish: available in invisible or sheer-glow versions.
- Texture: lightweight daily fluid.
- Best for: people who want daily protection with brightening skincare benefits.
- Important: the Vitamin C used is a derivative, not pure ascorbic acid.
My original wear test and experience

At the start of this year, I went on a bit of a mission to find the best sunscreens on the market here in the UK, and there were quite a few options. Still, two products that caught my eye recently are the Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid Invisible SPF50+ and the Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid Glow SPF50+ | about £10 each, which promise to offer sun protection along with brightening benefits.
So, are these game-changers in the world of sunscreens…?

Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid Invisible SPF50+
This is £10 for a 40ml bottle, which is quite an affordable price for a good SPF. It makes it an accessible product to try out and see if it works for you without the high cost. This is a chemical sunscreen that utilises chemical filters to absorb UV rays. It’s designed to be an invisible formula, which is a significant advantage for those who prefer a sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast.
The formula offers broad-spectrum SPF50+ protection, ensuring comprehensive protection against UVA and UVB rays. It’s not water-resistant, but that’s not a concern for me, as it’s primarily for daily use under makeup. It’s also fragrance-free, ideal for those with sensitive skin who are likely to be interested in this formula.
In terms of added benefits, including Vitamin C is a game-changer. Known for its antioxidant properties, Vitamin C helps protect the skin from free radicals while brightening the complexion. This makes the Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid not just a sunscreen but also a part of your skincare routine. The formula also contains hyaluronic acid to keep the skin hydrated and plump. Additionally, it includes peptides, which work to firm, smooth, and soothe the skin, improving elasticity and the appearance of skin texture.
The packaging is VERY practical, featuring a squeeze-top nozzle applicator that makes it easy to apply the right amount of product without any mess. Unlike some products that come with dropper applicators, the nozzle on this sunscreen works efficiently and dispenses the perfect amount for each use. The lightweight tube is also great for travel and popping in your handbag.
But how does it feel and apply – I love this formula. The texture is lightweight and serum-like, absorbing quickly into the skin without leaving any greasy residue. It feels hydrating and leaves my skin soft and happy after use; it has a dewy, glowy finish, which could border on shiny for those with oily skin. The product blends seamlessly without any white cast, making it suitable for all skin tones. I have a medium skin tone, and it melts in effortlessly, but even if you have darker skin than me and/or you’re reapplying this throughout the day, it will still stay invisible.
It sets down almost immediately for me, whereas with some formulas, I do have to wait 10-15 minutes for it not to look like an iridescent layer on top of my skin. It goes on smoothly, and I can apply the rest of my skincare under it and my makeup over the top with no peeling (this has also been a big issue for me in the past with sunscreens)! This may not be ideal for those with oily skin as it could make your skin feel even oilier throughout the day.
I would sum this SPF up as skincare in an SPF. All in all, the Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid Invisible SPF50+ is one of my favourite non-drying, non-peeling, easy-absorbing chemical sunscreens, and I’ve tried many of them. Plus, it’s easily accessible here in the UK. Despite its affordable price, it delivers impressive results. I’m travelling with this product as I type this post out on the train, which I don’t think I can say about many other sunscreens I’ve tried, and I think that might say it all…

Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid Glow SPF50+
I also wanted to mention the Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid Glow SPF50+, another product variation that offers the same level of sun protection but with added benefits for those looking for a glowing finish. This formula is very similar to the Invisible version but specifically markets to those who prefer a radiant look.
I have high expectations as a big fan of Garnier’s SPF products as I’ve had great experiences with the Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF 50+ Super UV Invisible Face Serum | £9 and the Garnier Ambre Solaire Ultra-Light Sensitive Sun Protection Face Fluid SPF50+ | £9, so I was pretty confident about this new launch.
The GLOW is ideal if you have dry or combination skin and want to add a bit of dewiness to your daily routine. It contains Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, ensuring your skin stays hydrated and protected. However, it also has a slightly more radiant finish than the Invisible, which can be great for a healthy glow but may not be suitable for oily skin types.
Garnier excels in texture, and the new Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Fluid SPF50+ Glow is no exception. It melts into the skin effortlessly, providing a natural-looking radiance without being overly shiny or greasy. The formula feels lightweight and comfortable, and it doesn’t sting my eyes at all. It has a fluid consistency and a light orange look. Applying it is pretty easy as it absorbs well and doesn’t leave a white cast but a light tint on my skin, a bit like a light concealer. It doesn’t feel sticky on my skin, and I feel like my skin is protected when I wear it.
The downside for me is that I end up with oily cheeks as the day progresses. As I have oily combination skin, this is not great for me. Another BIG downside is that applying it over my beard or light stubble is very hard due to its tint. I’d say it’s pretty annoying, and I often do not notice due to my lighting and leave the house without blending it into the beard very well. People have commented that I have makeup in my beard, which is quite a confidence stumper. Hence, I prefer the Invisible version, which melts into my beard better.
When I shave, I do use the Glow version. Makeup applies beautifully over it, making it an excellent choice for daily use. The inclusion of Vitamin C is a perfect match with sunscreen, enhancing its protective effects with antioxidant properties. The Glow version won’t become my new favourite affordable SPF product, only due to my beard, however, the Invisible version already stole my heart, and the sleek packaging makes it easy to carry for on-the-go touch-ups. This version of the sunscreen gives your skin a healthy glow and a slight tint, which can even out your skin tone and act almost like a light concealer.
Both the Invisible and Glow versions of Garnier’s Vitamin C Daily UV Brightening Fluid are excellent additions to your skincare routine, offering high SPF protection and added skin benefits. Make sure you try the one that best fits your skin type and desired finish, but they are so affordable that you can try both and see how each one works for you!

Frequently asked questions
Can Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV SPF50+ be worn under makeup?
Yes. Garnier specifically positions the fluid for morning use on its own or over moisturiser before makeup. Allow it to settle before applying complexion products.
Does it leave a white cast?
The invisible formula is marketed as blending across different skin tones without white traces. The sheer-glow formula uses mineral pigments, so its finish may look different depending on your skin tone and the amount applied.
Is it a replacement for sunscreen at the beach?
It is a daily facial SPF, but adequate application and reapplication still matter. For prolonged outdoor exposure, follow the product directions and use suitable additional sun-protection measures.
